Biography

Jake Fey, born and raised in Port Angeles, in the northwest corner of Washington state, is an American politician, attorney, and public health official. He currently serves as a member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 27th district. A member of the Democratic Party, Fey assumed office on January 14, 2013.

Early Life and Education : Jake Fey’s experience in the YMCA Youth and Government program pointed him early on toward a life of public service. He was the first in his family to graduate from college, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Washington. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Puget Sound.

Career and Advocacy : Before entering politics, Fey served as the Director of the Washington State University Energy program from 2001 to 2019, providing leadership in alternative energy and energy efficiency. His commitment to clean and sustainable transportation led him to work with colleagues in the legislature to pass significant transportation bills.

During the 2019 Legislative session, Fey introduced the Green Transportation bill, aimed at promoting electric vehicles and cleaner fuels. The bill included incentives to buy electric vehicles and provisions to build the necessary infrastructure for charging electric cars in Washington state. His dedication to a cleaner transportation system remains one of his top priorities.

In the 2022 Legislative Session, Jake Fey led his colleagues in passing the Move Ahead Washington transportation package—a $17 billion, 16-year package that makes unprecedented investments in transit, active transportation, and highway preservation and maintenance. This package represents a historic commitment to improving mobility and sustainability in the state.

Community Involvement : Fey’s impact extends beyond legislative chambers. He has served as a member of the Sound Transit and Pierce Transit Boards and as Vice Chair of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency. His progressive values drive his advocacy for equity, justice, and environmental responsibility.

Personal Life : Jake Fey has lived in Tacoma for more than 30 years. He is a proud parent and grandparent, deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of Washingtonians.
