Jacob K. Javits

Jacob Koppel Javits (born May 18, 1904) was a Republican senator from New York who served in the United States Congress from January 3, 1947, to January 3, 1981. A historical member of Congress, he represented the state of New York in the Senate and was affiliated with the Republican Party throughout his federal legislative career. He is identified in congressional records by the bioguide ID J000064.¹

Javits held the role of senator for New York over the course of eight terms in office, concluding his service as a former member after 1981. During this period, he served continuously in the Senate, with his tenure spanning more than three decades. His long service marked him as a significant Republican figure in New York’s federal representation in the mid-20th century.
