George Sykes

George E. Sykes, born on June 3, 1951, is an American politician who has been serving as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from the Grafton-13 district since December 5, 2012. He is also a member of the Lebanon City Council from Ward 2 since 2019. Sykes is a member of the Democratic Party.

Biography

George Sykes represents Lebanon Ward 2 and is serving his sixth term as a New Hampshire State Representative. He has been a resident of Lebanon, NH, for over 30 years, living with his wife, Jayne Buckley. They have a daughter, Kate, who graduated from Lebanon High School in the class of 2000.

George is a retired Deputy Chief of the Lebanon Fire Department and a recipient of the Aubrey G. Robinson Award for outstanding service to the State of NH in fire prevention. His dedication to community service is evident through his extensive volunteer work. He volunteers with the Grafton County Senior Citizens Council, Meals on Wheels program, and the American Red Cross Disaster Services. As a responder, George has deployed to NH, NY, PA, MA, VT, FL, Haiti for nearly two years after the 2010 earthquake, and Puerto Rico in 2017.

He is a longtime supporter and Board Member of AVA, the Advanced Alliance for the Visual Arts, and also assists in transporting injured birds for VINS. Additionally, George serves on the Board of Directors for Tri-County CAP.

In the New Hampshire House of Representatives, George is a member of the Transportation Committee and currently serves as Chair of the Grafton County Delegation. His educational background includes a BA from Bridgewater State College (‘74), a BS in Business and Economics from Empire State College (‘88), and an MBA from Southern New Hampshire University (‘99).

George was elected in 2019 to represent Lebanon Ward 2 on the Lebanon City Council, after having been appointed to fill a vacant position in 2018. He had previously been elected to the council in 2008 and 2010.
