Gary Woods is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He represents Merrimack District 30, having assumed office on December 4, 2024. His current term is set to conclude on December 2, 2026.

Gary Woods has a rich and diverse background that has shaped his career in public service. Originally from California, he pursued an impressive academic journey, earning a degree in Physics from UC Berkeley, followed by a Master’s in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University, and finally an MD from the University of Rochester. His professional career as an orthopedic hand surgeon spanned 39 years, during which he made significant contributions to the medical field before retiring in 2014.

Beyond his medical career, Woods has been deeply involved in legislative and community activities. He has served on various legislative commissions and councils, including the New Hampshire Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council. His advocacy for healthcare policy has been notable, both at the state level through the New Hampshire Medical Society and nationally with the American Medical Association. Additionally, he has held leadership roles, such as being the past President of the New Hampshire Medical Society and serving on committees for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Gary Woods is also an active member of his local community. He has been involved with the Havenwood-Heritage Heights Retirement Community as a Trust Fund board member and has contributed to various initiatives aimed at improving the lives of New Hampshire residents. His dedication to public service is further reflected in his work on the Health, Human Services, and Elderly Affairs Committee, where he addresses critical issues related to healthcare and the well-being of the state’s citizens.

Outside of his professional and legislative commitments, Woods enjoys a fulfilling personal life. He and his wife have three daughters and have embraced the natural beauty and cultural offerings of New Hampshire. From ocean sailing and skiing to hiking and exploring Boston, the Woods family has made the most of their time in the region.
