FLOYD B. OLSON, the twenty-second governor of Minnesota, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 13, 1891. His education was attained at the University of Minnesota, and at Northwest Law College, where he earned a law degree in 1915. After establishing his legal career in Minneapolis, Olson entered into a career in public service. He was the special assistant to the Hennepin County attorney in 1919 and served as the Hennepin County attorney from 1920 to 1930. Olson next secured the Farmer-Labor gubernatorial nomination and was elected governor by a popular vote on November 4, 1930. He was reelected to a second term in 1932, and to a third term in 1934. During his tenure, funding was secured for the improvement of unemployment benefits, as well as for new construction of highways. Also, regulations were imposed on the sale of securities; and state charitable and prison institutions were expanded. While still in office, Governor Olson passed away on August 22, 1936. He was buried in the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
