Biography

Doug Smith, a retired Army Colonel and Military Police Officer, was born on January 1, 1967, in Waterloo, Iowa. His educational journey includes a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Criminal Justice from Wichita State University, a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Criminal Justice from City University, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Throughout his impressive career, Doug Smith has been affiliated with various organizations. He is a member of the National Rifle Association, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and part of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). Additionally, he holds life membership in the North American Hunting Club and is associated with the Bluefield Mercer Lodge No. 85 and the West Virginia Citizens Defense League.

Delegate Smith entered the political arena when he was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates in 2020. His faith is rooted in Catholicism, and he has been a resident of West Virginia since 2005. After retiring from the U.S. Army as a Colonel in May 2018, Doug Smith now resides in Princeton, West Virginia, with his wife Shirley and their loyal dog, Buddy.
