Deborah Ferguson

Biography

Deborah Ferguson, born in Parkin, Arkansas, is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Arkansas House of Representatives. She has been representing District 51 since January 14, 2013.

Ferguson earned her bachelor’s degree in interior design from the University of Mississippi and her DDS from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Before her political career, she worked as a dentist.

In the 2012 elections, with District 51 Representative Marshall Wright redistricted to District 49, Ferguson was unopposed for the May 22, 2012 Democratic Primary. She won the November 6, 2012 General election with 6,794 votes (79.2%) against Libertarian candidate Rodger Paxton.

In addition to her work in the Arkansas House of Representatives, Ferguson has served as the Arkansas state director of Women in Government and on the National Council of Insurance Legislators Executive Committee, the National Conference of State Legislators Health Committee, and The Council of State Governments Health Committee.

As of 2023, she is a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, representing District 63. She assumed office on January 9, 2023. Her current term ends on January 13, 2025. On September 6, 2023, Ferguson announced she would not seek re-election to the Arkansas House of Representatives District 63.

Throughout her tenure, Ferguson has been assigned to various committees including the House Insurance and Commerce Committee and the House Public Health, Welfare and Labor Committee. She has also served on the Legislative Council and the House Rules Committee.
