David S. Rust, born on December 8, 1945, in Mercer, North Dakota, United States, is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He has been serving in the North Dakota State Senate from the 2nd District since 2014. Before his tenure in the Senate, Rust served in the House of Representatives from 2008 to 2014.
In addition to his political career, Rust is a retired Superintendent of the Tioga Public School. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from Valley City State University (VCSU), a Master of Arts (MA) degree from Bowling Green State University, and an Education Specialist degree (EDS) from North Dakota State University (NDSU).
Rust has held several leadership positions throughout his career. He served as the Past President of the Western Dakota Energy Association and the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders. He was also the Past Chairman of the Tioga Community Medical Center and served on the board of the Tioga Economic Development Corporation (EDC). In 1996, he was recognized as the North Dakota Superintendent of the Year.
