David Meriwether (April 10, 1755 – November 16, 1822) was an American soldier and politician from Georgia who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1801 to 1807.

Early Life and Military Service

David Meriwether was born on April 10, 1755, in Virginia. He served as a soldier during the American Revolutionary War, gaining recognition for his service to the patriot cause. After the war, he relocated to Georgia and became involved in the civic and political life of the state.

Congressional Career

Meriwether was elected to the United States House of Representatives as a Republican, representing Georgia. He served in Congress from December 7, 1801, to March 3, 1807, serving three terms during the administrations of Presidents Thomas Jefferson and the early years of the republic. During his time in Congress, he worked on issues related to the development of Georgia and the expanding American frontier.

Later Life and Legacy
