Biography

David Reece Bowen (born October 21, 1932) is a former Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from Mississippi. He represented Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District in Congress, serving five consecutive terms. Bowen’s tenure in the U.S. House began on January 3, 1973, and concluded on January 3, 1983.

During this decade in office, Representative Bowen served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Mississippi at a time when the state’s 2nd District was undergoing political and social change. As a Democratic representative, he was part of his party’s delegation from Mississippi in the post–civil rights era. Bowen left Congress at the end of his fifth term in 1983 and has since been regarded as a historical member of Congress from Mississippi.
