Biography

David W. Marsden was born in Alexandria, Virginia, on April 5, 1948. He received his education at Randolph-Macon College. Marsden has a rich background in public service, having served as the Former Chief Deputy / Acting Director of the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice from 2000 to 2002.

He is married to Julia Marsden and is an active member of the Protestant/Methodist Church. Marsden has been involved in various community organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates since 2007. He has also held leadership positions, having been the former President of the Virginia Juvenile Justice Association and the Virginia Council on Juvenile Detention.

Marsden’s political career began in the House of Delegates, where he served from 2006 to 2010. In 2010, he transitioned to the Virginia State Senate, representing District 35. His commitment to public service and dedication to his constituents continue to shape his work in the Senate.

District 35 includes parts of Fairfax County, and Marsden actively participates in various legislative committees and commissions. Notably, he chairs the Agriculture, Conservation, and Natural Resources Committee and is a member of other committees such as Commerce and Labor, Finance and Appropriations, and Transportation.

Dave Marsden’s passion for public policy and community well-being drives his service in the Virginia State Senate. His current term began on January 10, 2024, and extends until January 12, 2028.
