Biography

Dante Pittman is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 24. Pittman was first elected in November 2024, defeating Republican incumbent Ken Fontenot by roughly two percentage points in a seat that changed party hands, and took office on January 1, 2025. The district lies in Nash and Wilson counties in eastern North Carolina.1

Pittman grew up in Wilson County and graduated from Fike High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018. After college Pittman joined the first cohort of Lead for North Carolina, a public service fellowship based at the UNC School of Government, and was then hired by the City of Wilson, where the work included serving as the city’s human relations director and as an assistant to the city manager. Pittman later became a grant writer for Barton College in Wilson and lists grants consulting as an occupation. Pittman has also served in the North Carolina Army National Guard since December 2015 and holds the rank of captain.

In the 2025-2026 session, Pittman sits on the House Appropriations Committee and its subcommittee on Capital and Information Technology, as well as the committees on Commerce and Economic Development and on Emergency Management and Disaster Recovery.
