Biography

Bryan Cohn is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 32. Cohn was first elected in November 2024, unseating Republican incumbent Frank Sossamon by 228 votes out of more than 42,000 cast, a result that held after Sossamon sought a recount and filed a protest. Cohn took office in January 2025. The district is made up of Granville and Vance counties.1

Cohn was born and raised in Henderson and lives in Oxford. Before joining the legislature, Cohn was elected to the Oxford Board of Commissioners in 2021. Cohn’s private-sector career has been in food manufacturing and food safety technology, most recently as a solutions consultant for a software company serving food producers.

In the 2025-2026 session, Cohn serves on the House committees on Alcoholic Beverage Control; Appropriations; Appropriations, Justice and Public Safety; and Commerce and Economic Development. Cohn has highlighted support for public schools and gun safety measures, voted against House Bill 318, an immigration enforcement measure, and opposed a 2025 proposal that would have redirected $10 million in state funds away from Oxford.

Cohn had initially announced plans not to seek re-election in 2026. After Curtis McRae, the Democratic nominee chosen in the March 2026 primary, withdrew for health reasons in June, Cohn re-entered the race and is the Democratic candidate in a November 2026 rematch with Sossamon.
