Biography

Brian Reynolds is an independent member of the Maine House of Representatives, representing the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians. Reynolds holds the band’s non-voting tribal representative seat, which allows the holder to introduce and sponsor legislation but not to vote on the House floor. Reynolds was elected to the post by the band in 2025 and was sworn in on May 14, 2025, during the 132nd Legislature, with a term running through October 2026.1

Reynolds’s arrival ended a long vacancy in the seat. The Houlton Band notified the House in November 2018 that it would not fill the position for the 129th Legislature, and it remained empty for about seven years; the band’s previous representative was Henry John Bear.

Reynolds has served for close to two decades as tribal administrator of the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians and has been a member of its tribal council. Reynolds earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary social studies education in 1994. Reynolds’s affiliations include the Maine Indian Tribal-State Commission, and Reynolds has coached football at Houlton High School.

In the House, Reynolds is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
