Biography

Brett Ligon serves as a Republican Senator for District 4 in the Texas state legislature.

Brett Ligon was elected to the Texas Senate in a special election on May 2, 2026, and was sworn in on May 19, 2026, succeeding Brandon Creighton, who left the seat to become chancellor of the Texas Tech University System. Senate District 4 includes parts of Montgomery, Harris, Chambers, Jefferson and Galveston counties. Ligon served 17 years as Montgomery County District Attorney after being elected to that office in 2008; earlier, he was an assistant district attorney in Harris County and counsel for the Houston Police Officers’ Union. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A&M University, a law degree from South Texas College of Law and a certificate in government management from Sam Houston State University. Ligon and his wife, Shannon, live in Montgomery County and have two children, Austin and Morgan.
