Biography

Bill Walker was sworn in as governor of Alaska on December 1, 2014.

Walker was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, and raised in Delta and Valdez. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lewis and Clark College in 1973.

In 1977, he was elected to the Valdez City Council and became mayor in 1979. He graduated from the University of Puget Sound School of Law (now Seattle University) in 1983 and worked for the law firm Hughes, Thorsness, Gantz, Powell and Brundin upon graduation. Walker and his wife, Donna, founded their own firm in 1995, focusing on municipal and oil and gas law. Walker also served as general counsel for the Alaska Gasline Port Authority.

He and his wife Donna reside in Anchorage. They have four children, Lindsay, Tessa, Adam and Jordan.
