Biography

Bill Clifford is an American politician who has been serving as a Republican member of the Kansas Senate from the 39th district since January 13, 2025. Before his tenure in the Senate, Clifford represented the 122nd district in the Kansas House of Representatives from January 11, 2021, to January 13, 2025. He succeeded John Doll in the Senate and was succeeded by Lon Pishny in the House.

Born near Junction City, Kansas, Clifford has a rich background in both public service and the medical field. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and served in the Air Force for ten years. Outside of his political career, Clifford is an ophthalmologist and co-owner of Fry Eye Associates and Surgery Center.

Clifford’s political journey includes a run for Kansas’s 1st congressional district in 2020, although he lost to Tracey Mann. He has also been a member of the Finney County Commission and the Garden City Community College Board of Trustees. His involvement in the community extends to his membership in the National Rifle Association of America.

In the Kansas Senate, Clifford has been active in various committees, including the Financial Institutions and Pensions Committee, where he serves as Vice Chair, the Health and Human Services Committee, the Social Services Budget Committee, and the Pensions, Investments and Benefits Committee. His legislative efforts have focused on a range of issues, from validating election results for bond issuance questions to providing property tax exemptions for certain personal property.

Clifford’s dedication to public service and his community is evident in his extensive career and ongoing commitment to improving the lives of Kansans. He continues to reside in Garden City, Kansas, with his spouse, Jean Clifford, and their six children.
