Balvir Singh is a member of the Democratic Party, serving in the New Jersey General Assembly. He represents the 7th Legislative District, having assumed office on January 30, 2025. His current term is set to end in January 2027.
Balvir Singh’s journey to public service is deeply rooted in his commitment to education, equity, and community development. Born in Punjab, India, he immigrated to the United States with his family, settling in Burlington City, New Jersey. Singh’s academic pursuits reflect his passion for learning; he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from The College of New Jersey, followed by a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Rutgers University. He also holds a supervisory certificate from Rowan University, showcasing his dedication to both teaching and leadership.
Before entering state politics, Singh made significant contributions at the local level. He served on the Burlington Township Board of Education from 2015 to 2017, where he chaired the finance committee and worked to ensure fiscal responsibility while maintaining quality education. His efforts in local governance paved the way for his election to the Burlington County Board of Commissioners in 2018. During his tenure as a commissioner, Singh championed initiatives addressing affordable housing, economic development, and public health. Notably, he supported programs that provided rental assistance, launched zero-interest loans for small businesses, and facilitated the construction of emergency shelters for vulnerable populations.
As the first Sikh legislator in New Jersey’s history, Singh brings a unique perspective to the General Assembly.
