Biography

Alex Harlan serves as a Republican Representative for District 42A in the Maryland state legislature.

Alex Harlan was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates by Governor Wes Moore and sworn in on August 3, 2026, after being nominated by the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee. He fills the District 42A seat in Baltimore County left vacant when Nino Mangione resigned to join the Baltimore County Council. Born in Baltimore, Harlan graduated from Dulaney High School, earned a B.A. in political science from Penn State University in 2020, and an M.S. in counter-terrorism and homeland security from American University in 2022. He served as assistant chief of staff to State Senator Chris West from 2021 to 2025 and has been a research associate at the Orion Policy Institute since 2023. He has been a volunteer firefighter with the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Company since 2015, and he is married.
