Biography

Alan Armstrong was the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors at Williams Companies, a leading provider of energy infrastructure in North America. Appointed to that role in July 2025, he transitioned from his long tenure as president and chief executive officer, a position he had held since 2011.

Before becoming CEO, Armstrong led Williams’ North American midstream and olefins businesses as senior vice president and also served in a number of operational and commercial roles across the company. He began his career at Williams nearly four decades ago as an engineer and steadily rose through the ranks.

Armstrong is the former chair of the National Petroleum Council and a founding member of Natural Allies for a Clean Energy Future. He also served as chair of the University of Oklahoma Foundation board of trustees and as a board member of BOK Financial Corp., and he is a former chair of Junior Achievement USA. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Oklahoma.
